I think if the death penalty were to be brought back, then it would cause so much controversy !.!.
Cause like, what if someone where totally innocent, and falsely prooven guilty!? !.!. would be just atall !.!.
also what if someone had done something really really bad, then they should be made to suffer, and killing someone is fast, the person guilty will have not suffered atall!.
So I think that there should be some other form of punishment maybe!?
And, what if someone wanted to die!? the death penalty could be a form of suicide couldn't it!? !.!. they could be something terrible so the result could be that they would die, without making it look like they purposely died !.!.
This would then reflect badly on the government !.!.

My gut reaction says Yes!.
However, I looked into the possibility of a return to the death penalty a few years back!. I considered all the issues, and looked at the research!. I considered it from the victims point of view, their families position, the rule of law, and social affects!.
One aspect cemented my opinion against the death penalty!. That is the effect the death penalty has on jurors!. When the death penalty is in place, jurors who are 99% certain someone is guilty are strongly tempted to return a Not Guilty verdict - because that 1% doubt is enough to deter them knowing the accused will face the death penalty!. The result - the accused is found Not Guilty and set free,
When there is no death penalty, a juror who is 99% certain the accused is guilty will return a guilty verdict knowing that the person will go to prison!.
Having been a juror myself, deciding on guilt on some of the cases was extremely difficult!.
So I am against the death penalty - because it influence juries on their decisions whn they know their decison might result in a hanging!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I don't think harsher penalties act as any kind of a deterrent to criminals, not saying they don't deserve it, it just doesn't work!. I think that applies both to capital punishement and longer sentences!. It certainly hasn't solved the crime problem in America!. also I think the death penalty is morally wrong!.

Besides, it might mean they don't do it again, but it doesn't stop them doing it in the first place!. In the 1700s crime was so much higher, despite being being hanged for what are now non-custodial offences!.
