No it is not selfish but true happiness comes from within first that I have learned!. Materialistic things or others will never make you content and happy unless you are liking who you are, accepting of yourself faults & all, as no-one is perfect!. Then you will be content!. I don't think anyone is happy all the time but that is what makes the happy times seem so much better as life is full of ups and downs!.!.!.!.!.When you are accepting of yourself and grateful for what you have then you will be less insecure in who you are and have more to offer someone else if you get involved!.!.!.!.then won't expect the other person to make you happy, that is why I spent so much time single, feel happier within!.!.!.!.!.!.
