If New Orleans gets hit by yet another hurricane, should we not rebuild it?!

Question: If New Orleans gets hit by yet another hurricane, should we not rebuild it!?
I know some think it is this great place but I have been there and it's not that special!. Not worth the billions we dumped into it to help recover from Katrina!. We should just bulldoze the buildings, blow up the levies and let nature have it!.

We can relocate everyone to higher ground (at least above sea level!) and start over!.

We as a country should say enough and if they want to stay, they should be on their own if they get slammed again!. No money from the feds!. We as a country should net be expected to keep bailing them out!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Insurance companies call weather accidents such as hurricanes, tornadoes and floods ACTS OF GOD!. Well now, I'm not a very religious person, But I think GOD may be trying to send a message!. People say GOD is perfect!. If HE/SHE did make us in HIS/HER image, then doesn't it make sense that maybe GOD does make a mistake or two!. Think about it!. Everyone remembers Katrina, but seem to forget that Katrina was the SECOND one that hit that area that year!. The way I see it, God sent one to Clean Up the area!. After, God looked down and said, "WOW, that didn't work!. I'd better send another one to clean up that $hithole"!.
Okay, look at the weather conditions for this coming week or so!. At least one is predicted to hit "THE SAME AREA" and a few more are brewing up!. That in itself should tell you something!. GOD is getting ready to really "CLEAN HOUSE" down there!.
Let's face it, many of the "refugees" from Katrina were taken in by good hearted people only to robbed, raped and or killed by those same poor homeless individuals they tried to help!. One woman took her 14 year old daughter to strip clubs!. The daughter bought a lottery ticket and won (Of course they had to say it was the mother's ticket as she was a minor)!. The woman, during a news interview, stated she was so happy now that she wouldn't have to whore her daughter out for money anymore!.
I say we let them all stay put where they are now (face it, they were warned the last two times and didn't leave and then blamed the government for what happened)!. Let GOD do his end of summer cleaning, and leave it alone!. How many times does GOD have to destroy an area before people finally get a clue!?
Yeah, I will probably get a lot of thumbs down for this one, but you didn't have to deal with the scumbags when San Antonio took them in!. HOLY $HIT did things get really messed up within 48 hours of them coming here!. I'm all for lending a helping hand!. I'll help them relocate to a different frickin city as long as they don't come here again!.
I know that not everybody from the area is a scumbag, but there are a lot there!. I say help the kids and give them what they need, whatever it is, schooling, clothes, food, housing and toys!. Kids can't help the situation they were put in!. Hopefully they will get an education and improve their lives!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I disagree, you kind of make it sound like they are doing it to themselves!. " We as a country should net be expected to keep bailing them out!." I live just north of San Francisco and we have earthquakes all of the time that cause buildings, schools and homes to fall down and I am very thankful that the government puts them all back together and just doesn't bulldoze San Francisco!.
Sorry, not what you wanted to hear!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

news flash idiot- it wasn't rebuilt the first time around!. best thing that could happen is another hurricane (with no fatalities of course) and then maybe there'll be some attention to that area of the gulf coast that needs so much rehabilitation not just financially, but sociallyWww@Enter-QA@Com

New Orleans was founded in 1718!. That's a lot of years to just say "dump it"!. Don't you think!? After all, how would you feel if they wanted to do this to your city!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

one of the greatest things of living in the greatest state being new jersey is that we do not get any natural disasters!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

You talk insulting!? As a resident of New Orleans, I find YOUR question insulting!. No place is immune to natural disasters!. Why is New Orleans any different!? 51% of New Orleans is above sea level!. Should we destroy half the city!? We as a country should HAVE NO PROBLEM helping out other Americans!. Did you forget that we were part of this country too!? By that logic, NOBODY should get help from the feds in a natural disaster!.

I find it disgusting that you sit and want to destroy mine and several hundred thousands people homes and talk about it so casually!. We will ALWAYS rebuild, we are also tax paying citizens, and the government WILL help us when we truly need it, whether you like it or not!.

Do you think that you can just force everyone around here(or do you even want to) to separate from each other and start in a place they don't want to be!? No, we will stay in our hometown!. I apologize if you are upset that people are content in their hometown, but sometimes you just have to deal :DWww@Enter-QA@Com

Everyplace has natural disasters!. Floods, Hurricanes, Tornadoes, Earthquakes, Volcanoes, Tidal Waves, Heat Waves, Meteorites, Fires!. There are also man-made disasters!.

Having once been caught in such a disaster, it is wonderful to have some aid to get you back on your feet!.

Notwithstanding, we as a country need to limit our risks

To answer your question specifically, New Orleans, because of its location, is important to our national economy!. There will always be development there (at least until sea levels rise too high)!. The question is what do we protect and how much do we invest to provide that protection!?

In other words, New Orleans needs to be protected against a Level 5 Hurricane!. But it may not be worth it to us to protect all of New Orleans to that level!.

*********Addendum*******

NOLA Guy, below, really nailed the economic arguments about why New Orleans will exist into the foreseeable future!. It needs to be rebuilt!. How best to do this is a completely separate question!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Rebuilding New Orleans is not optional!. History, architecture, culture, and the fact the city is home to many people are usually mentioned when the topic of rebuilding is discussed!. However, those factors (while significant) are NOT why NOLA is important to the rest of the United States!.

First, New Orleans is a metro area of almost 1!.4 million people – not some small town that could be easily relocated somewhere else!.

More than 35% of America's energy is either produced in Southeast Louisiana or imported through here, and the infrastructure is focused on New Orleans!. What may be the largest oil field on earth was discovered offshore of Louisiana in 2006, and it will be exploited via New Orleans!.

The Port of New Orleans is the largest or second largest port in North America each year (tons of cargo) and one of the top ports in the world each year!. The Port of New Orleans is not replaceable!.

More than 25% of America's petroleum refining capacity is in the New Orleans area!. That percentage will increase due to a new refinery already under construction and the planned expansion of existing refineries!.

A large percentage of America's non-petroleum chemical industry is here!.

New Orleans is one of only three principal east-west transportation points for the USA, and the resulting convergence of water, rail, pipeline, electricity, and highway links is not replaceable!.

A large percentage of America's ship building & repair industry is in New Orleans!.

NASA builds essential parts for the space shuttle in New Orleans, and will build components for the next generation of spacecraft here!. Other manufacturers (ex!. Bell-Textron) have factories in New Orleans!.

A large percentage of America's seafood comes from SE Louisiana, and the distribution network is focused on New Orleans!.

And so on…!.

It is theoretically possible to move the industry and the population, but only at horrific cost!. The Mississippi river, Gulf of Mexico, and the oil fields cannot be moved!. To even attempt to replace New Orleans would cost Trillions of Dollars and the attempt would fail!.

In contrast, New Orleans can be protected from future hurricanes with the expenditure of about $15 Billion (that should have been spent before Katrina) spread out over a period of a decade!.

Note that New Orleans is NOT "prone" to hurricanes or being flooded!. The last one to hit before Katrina was in 1965 and before that was in 1947!. Neither of those flooded the city proper like Katrina, which was the strongest storm ever recorded to strike North America!.

There is a widespread myth that New Orleans is "built below sea level”, but that is not true!.

Realize that nowhere is without risk!. NYC and Miami are at more risk from hurricanes than New Orleans!. Los Angeles and San Francisco are at risk from earthquakes and fires!. Seattle is threatened by volcanoes and Tsunamis!. The Midwest is hit by tornadoes every year!. However, I don’t hear anyone claiming New York, Florida, California, Kansas, or Washington (state) be abandoned, or even not rebuilt after the next disaster!.

However, people routinely claim New Orleans should be abandoned, or that we somehow don’t deserve help after Katrina!.

Why is that!?
