Well a Yield Sign is there to indicate that you need to yield the right of way to oncoming traffic!.
If there is no traffic in sight and no one to yield to!.!.!.!.!.punch it!.
If there is traffic, or a bend in the road, or anything that could impair your ability to see the oncoming traffic!.!.!.slow/stop to confirm that it's clear and then go!.

If there are cars coming I do stop for an even count of 5!. Then and only then will I advance in to traffic unless Im merging then I just hope that some one in the same lane will be kind enough to slow a bit and let me in!. Which lately people have been quite rude where I live and basicly you need to fight your way in to merging traffic tooth and nail!. For street yield signs I do stop if theres traffic and give them their chance then take mine
Keep in mind most cities have warned their police officers if they see drivers flooring it thru Yellow lights they do have the right to pull you over!. I just saw it happen yesterday to several drivers!. I dont know if they got tickets or a warning though!.
also and this is for those who are very gas price minded!. The angeier/stressed you are the more gas you burn!. The less stressed/angery you are the less gas you burn!. It was an experiement done on Mythbusters that I found very interesting!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

In all honesty I treat a stop sign like a yield sign, and a yield sign like a free pass!.

well that depends!.!.if there are cars coming down that road, i stop so i wont get hit! but if i dont see any cars i just slow down and go!. but i do the same thing at stop signs! it's kinda like how green means go, red means stop, and yellow means "STEP ON IT!"Www@Enter-QA@Com
