My step-father was deer hunting in the woods behind my house, Just as I was walking down the drive I heard the crack of a shotgun, then a deer slug came whistling by pinging off the gravel within 6 feet of me!.
His "apology" included, "well, it was from far enough away it wouldn't have killed you!"
He felt the large bullet's velocity was spent by that time!.
