Survey: Are you proud or ashamed of where you are from?!

Question: Survey: Are you proud or ashamed of where you are from!?
(Repost - sorry, YaHell put it in LG&T!?!?!?!?)

I don't mean nationally!.!.!.!. I am from Middlesbrough, UK (now in London)!. If no-one has been, let me give you the highlights:

A) Proportionate to it's population, it has the highest rate of drug use and drug crime in the UK by far
B) It is home to the inventor of the matchstick
C) A man was once stabbed to death (1990 - pre-knife culture) at the local pub, 'The Wild Ox', for cheating at dominos
D) We have the most nondescript football team in the world
E) Must-have accessories for the average 14-year old girl include massive hoop earrings, white trainers, and a pram containing a child from father unknown!.

But!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!. Even though I really don't fit in back home when I visit (i!.e!. having escaped the maggot-ridden cesspit to become moderately successful, if I may say)!.!.!.!.!. I STILL LOVE THE PLACE!

What about you - proud or ashamed of your homestead!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
I love the E description of Middlesborough!.

I'm from Abbey Wood (nicknames Scabby Wood by acknowledgers) and all I have to say is that it's in South East London for all the UKers to go "uh-oh, knife crime!"!.

Yeh, most of the knife attacks you've read about in the papers in SE London are near me andm just the other week, we drove past a crime scene of which the attack was in the next day's Sun!.

Makes me sick!.

I can't say I'm proud of where I'm from or that I'm ashamed of it!. I'm ashamed of most of the people (kids who think fighting is cool, carrying knives and guns, and the parents who let their kids run riot and not care) who live in it!.

All I know is that it's the only place that I can honestly call home because, well, it is where my home is! I've lived there all my life and my family was there a good 10 years before me!.

Home's home, really!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Anchorage, Alaska, hmm!.!.!. I guess I'm proud because, hello, it's Alaska! It's incredibly beautiful here, and 'the wild' is like a 10 minute drive from anywhere!. We have, if I remember correctly, the highest number of rapes in the country, the highest number of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome cases, and one of the highest rates of suicide!. So that's a big downside!.

But we have our own time zone, no sales tax, smoking pot is legal, and moose!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Hi!

Well, I was born and bred in South London ( not including the 4 years in Spain :P), and I can tell you: there are great things about it and awful things about it, as you probably already know!. There's a lot of violence, which seems to be increasing by the minute, and everything's getting expensive, making it hard for my family to actually cope ( especially with studies )!. But, on the other hand, everyone in the whole world wants to go to London!.!! There's culture everywhere you look: foreign restaurants, Harrods, theatres coming out of ya backside, museums, Madame Tussauds!.!.!.and the list goes on!.
So, kinda got a mixed feeling!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I think theres always going to be a kind of an emotional attachment to where you grew up no matter what kind of place it is!. You won't get that feeling anywhere else!. I gotta say though, you don't paint a very appealing picture of middlesbrough, way to promote your town :DWww@Enter-QA@Com

I'm a bit neutral, really!. Having lived abroad, it gave me a different perspective on my native country (USA) and I realised that there's much to celebrate about the country and much to frown upon!.

Ultimately, good or bad, wrong or right, it's still home!.

PS: Love the highlights!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Indifferent really, I'm from Leicester but haven't lived there in years!. I loved it when I lived in Newcastle though!.!.!.!.!.!. I'm also in London now!.

lol at your description of Middlesborough, my sister in law used to live in Pallister!? I think!.!.!.!. that's pretty much how she described it!.

I have to disagree with point B) it was invented by a distant member of my wifes family many moons ago who lived in Norton not Middlesbrough

edit: trouble is what else has norton got!? lolWww@Enter-QA@Com

I love it!. Though sometimes the people could be friendlier!. They tend to be too nosey and a little bit bigoted!. It's not the town I grew up in - i!.e!. it's changed somehow!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Proud not ashamed, but like other places we are no exception to the crime/youth culture and unemployment!.!.!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
