It is only illegal for those aged 5-17 to drink alcohol on licensed premises (e!.g!. a pub or restaurant) but they may legally drink alcohol in private, so therefore the drinking age in the UK is 5!.People aged 16 and 17, may consume wine, beer or cider with a meal in a restaurant, provided they are with an adult, but you cannot purchase alcohol yourself until you are 18!.

In England the legal age to start drinking is actually 5 but only with your parents permission!. You can buy alcohol legally from the age of 18
I however started drinking from the age of 14 at school!.!.!.those were fun times, turing up drunk in class and having to sleep it off in the school chapel!

18 (South Africa)!.!.!.!. Uhmmm!. Well I probably started drinking 'properly' by about 16, but more than likely before, possibly 14!. But I was very young when I would drink from my mom/dad's beer mugs or champaign/wine glasses at Christmas's or other occasions!. I remember them allowing me to drink Amarula in tiny glasses every Christmas!. I know it sounds bad, but it wasn't!. They're not alcoholics or anything and they're extremely responsible and everything!. I believe my dad is the most amazing dad in the world!. And I can assure you, I've turned out pretty damn good! :)Www@Enter-QA@Com
The legal age for drinking in Australia is 18 and thats about the time I started!. I only drank for a few years especially when I was in the Army!.
