If you are in deep waters with no aids (lifejacket, boat, float etc) and someone is drowning, they are likely to cling on to you and pull you under!.
I have been in this situation and I thought I was a strong swimmer and went snorkelling with my younger sister without a life jacket!. We were very far out in deep waters (didn't realise this when busy admiring the beautiful corals and sealife) and she needed to adjust her mask But with nothing to hold on to she needed me as support!. This may all sound like nothing but when you are tired and swallowing water you panic for yourself and your loved one!.
I made sure she had sorted herself out and told her to swim to shore I'll be right behind her!. I swear I thought I was gonna die but I said to myself I'm not gonna go down without a fight and I gave my all to stay afloat on my back kicking all the way back to shore!.
