The Crane Wife 3 by the Decemberists!. This song, along with The Crane Wife 1 & 2, is based off of a Japanese folk tale in which a man finds an injured crane, nurses it back to health, and sets it free!. The next day or so a beautiful woman appears at his door, they get married, and she reveals that she can make beautiful silk if he promises never to watch her make it!. He agrees, she begins to make the silk, which is unbelievable and sells constantly!. The more she makes, the more her health deteriorates, but the man doesn't notice because he's so obsessed with making money off of it!. Finally he peeks in while she's making it one day, and sees not his wife, but the crane, pulling feathers out of its skin to make them into silk!.
