Originally the letters were set up on the typewriters in alphabetical order, but the keys would get stuck all the time!. Later the order was changed to the way it is today, locating the most used strategically so the keys would not get tangled in the typewriter!. Oh, and of course so you would either have to learn how to type properly or continuously search for the letters you need!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
The keyboard is based on the QWERTY system for typewriters!. The keys are set up so that as you are typing, your fingers are closest to the most used letters of the English alphabet!.

Because some the most frequently used letters would be too close together!. At least on the original manual typewriters!. The keys would stick!. It serves no purpose now but since that was the way we were all taught it has stayed in place!.
