Do you like to listen to Top 40 or Hit Music radio stations or Hit Music Channel!
Question:
Do you like to listen to Top 40 or Hit Music radio stations or Hit Music Channels?
Answers:
"It's in the grooves, baby." That's what we always said about a "hit." So Hit Music can be anything as long as it sells enough copies to get airplay on radio (either terrestrial or satellite). However in prehistoric times (the '60s and '70s) a "hit" could be any format: country, rock, soul or progressive as long as enough people bought it to make it a hit in the first place. Now days, a hit is a hit only in its specific genre or format. A Rap hit wouldn't be a hit for Country fans and vice verse. It just wouldn't happen.
So there is no "Top-40" anymore. There are specific formats that play only the "hits" of that style; be it jazz, rap, rock, AC (Adult Contemporary), hip-hop, pop or country. Maybe hip-hop and rap will "cross-over. Maybe AC and Pop will cross over, but rarely any of the others because of the narrowing of the demographics and formats - and the proliferation of many more stations now days. Does that make sense?
