Trying to record a radio demo - any advice?!

Question:

Trying to record a radio demo - any advice?

I'm graduating with my BA Hons in media and want to get into radio presenting. I've also done a soul/funk/disco show on FPR Radio in Paisley for the past four years.

For my demo I know its to be no more than five minutes long, though I'm not sure what links to put in. Apart from news and travel information I'm not sure what else to put in. Please help if you can.

Answers:

If you have contact with a station already, try and get some studio time, record everything you do and then get on an editing course to learn how to overlay your best bits on a backing track. Do an internet search for "showreel radio demos" or similar so that you get a feel for what others may be doing. Don't try to imitate, just be yourself. If you want to get into radio you will inevitably either start as a tea boy or be doing presenting for "free" as a volunteer e.g hospital radio/ RSLs etc. Or you could pay someone to create a demo from anything you have done in the past. So long as YOU know what is is you are hoping to achieve you will get there. Good luck!
