What will happen to analogue radio when High Def. starts broadcasting?!

Question:

What will happen to analogue radio when High Def. starts broadcasting?

I have several radios that only broadcast in analogue. Can you please tell me if these radios will continue to broadcast? Thank you very much . Patrick

Answers:

HD Radio still has a way to go before folks will part with the high prices to buy new equipment.

In the FM dept... The analog will continue because the new radios listen to both. As long as you can get digital FM, then the radio stay on digital. When digital goes away due to loss of line of sight or being too long in a tunnel or downtown area, then it switches back to analog with a 9 second delay... well, at least that's the way I set my 6 FMs up.

In the AM dept...
The government seems to think it needs to open up more bandwidth by making all AMs to go digital. I'm thinking that when it happens, the AM listeners will cause a terrible noise because of the loss of distant signals. But by that time, it will have been done and there will be nothing anyone can do about it. It will be a terrible day for AM stations.

This was all started in the Carter administration and has been a thorn in our side ever since.
