"Radio Friendly"?!

Question:

"Radio Friendly"?

Is a term I read a lot in regards to various songs/artists, regarding various degrees of this quality. What does the term mean to you? What distinguishes a "radio friendly" song from one that isn't? Give an example or two if you can...

Answers:

"Radio friendly" songs are typically 3 - 4 minutes long, they're poppy, there's a lack of swear words and violent imagery, the vocals are pleasant and non-irritating, the tempo is pretty quick but not rapid, its got a catchy chorus, the person singing and the people in the band are attractive and young, and its designed to sell to 12 year old girls. A good example of radio friendly band is Fall Out Boy. A good example of a non-radio friendly band that happens to get a lot of air play is Tool.
