Agreement for a radio DJ to play artists' songs?!

Question:

Agreement for a radio DJ to play artists' songs?

I have a lot of radio DJs coming to me through Myspace and requesting to play my music on their stations. I think I should have them sign some kind of simple release saying that they won't redistribute my songs. Does anyone know, where I can find that?

Answers:

You need a lawyer to handle this for you. As far as the DJ's wanting to play your music, I doubt it. Most radio stations now use playlists put together by corporate program directors or consultants. That leaves no creativity or choice for a DJ. He or she just has to play what is on the list. They are not allowed to add in any music of their choice. The radio license holder can't risk the liability of there is payola involved between a DJ and a song writer or singer. Next time, you should ask for their Program Director's name and number. Ask him. There are corporate lawyers for the radio stations, too.
