Muzak (Environmental): What do you think?!

Question:

Muzak (Environmental): What do you think?

Some people do not like instrumental versions of songs, but I actually do. Honestly, I think some people just say they do not like it to fit in with the crowd when in fact they really like some of the instrumental songs. After all, the station sounds like an instrumental jazz station but with versions of popular songs. Some of the best songs I have heard the muzak versions of are "Midnight Train to Georgia", "You Can't Hurry Love", etc. The only thing that I do not like about Muzak's Environmental (instrumental) channel is that they tend to repeat songs quite frequently. I wish they would add a few more songs to the playlist so that they did not repeat songs so much. What are your thoughts?

Answers:

Believe me, you are not alone in actually liking Muzak. I have been a fan of the instrumental cuts for a good while now. The Muzak of today is so much better that the good old "elevator" music that they used to play.

I agree, that the play lists on the Muzak service are so tightly structured that repetition is a slight problem. Actually, Musak puts a lot of time into music research. They hardly ever add a song to a play list without doing extensive auditorium-style testing of that particular song. They also program their music to fit particular "mood" dayparts. Ex. they play up-tempo stuff in the early morning, and just after lunchtime to build productivity in the businesses that subscribe to the Musak services.

Overall, The repetition really does not bother me that much. I just enjoy the relaxing, yet somewhat up-lifting music that they play.
