Have you noticed the radio station plays certain songs more in the winter and other songs more in the summer?
Has anyone else noticed this? Why do they do that?
Answers: Because especially with classic rock stations or stations that dont constantly update the ratings show that certain songs do better in certain seasons. Like on AC stations you'll hear alot of sublime and crap in the summer and alot of nirvana, alice in chains, nine inch nails, in the winter. Blue is right, there are seasonal songs espcially during the holidays - those we all know about. But there are other songs considered by radio programmers to be non-specific seasonal. In other words summer songs that a station can play toward the end of spring to make the station sound fresh. Depending on the format (let's pick Oldies, cause it's easier) you'd start hearing Beach Boys, Buffett, "The Boys of Summer," etc. It's all programming, Miranda, and trying to get an edge.
-a guy named duh As Blue and Duh said, Some songs and artist test better (meaning more people wanting to hear it then) in some seasons than others... for that matter, radio sees movements in people's listening tastes as the weather changes with some formats doing better in the summer than winter.
