Do you remember old time radio shows?!

Question: I am a collector of old time radio (you know before tv) and want to know how many of you remember or have heard of old time radio.

If so what is your favorite show? Mine is Suspense and Lux Radio Theater (right now I am listening to Inner Sanctum Mysteries)

I love love OTR! Some of the top shows were Dragnet, Jack Benny, I Love Lucy (which was a radio show first) and Six Shooter. Six Shooter only ran for one season but it's the best Western there is. You can get alot of OTR on eBay. Phil Harris Alice Faye is funny too.
The greatest thing about OTR is that they were live-the laughter is real and when they goofed, they goofed. Which made it so great.
Thanks for all your great radio shows!! I am glad to see that people actually know what a radio show is! Too bad they disappeared with the age of tv! Report It

What an interesting thing to collect! I like stuff like Burns and Allen. Not sure if it qualifies but I love Bob Newharts one sided phone conversations
    Jack Benny was classic.
yep.. I've heard them rebroadcast over Am radio stations as of late at night (say on a saturday or sunday night) to approximate how it would have sounded years ago.

But googling classic old radio shows apparently brought out many radio programs that have apparently never were truly copywrited so now it allows for people who might never have heard them (I actually grew up at the end of AM Top 40) to hear them again.

Unfortuneately I don't listen to them as I rather the top 40 air checks that are available on line now a days...
I love the mysteries, suspense, and spooky shows. Suspense is a classic. For comedy, Our Miss Brooks, Jack Benny and The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet (yes, it was on radio first!) are classics. On weekend nights here, they play old-time radio shows on a local station, and around Halloween, all the mystery, suspense and ghost stories come out. There was one anthology series, similar to The Twilight Zone, but I forgot the name, an episode featured a man and a woman who could hear their neighbor's conversations through their radio. It was pretty amazing. I also love stories from literature made into radio plays, those are alot of fun too.
For a few years, I did a radio show for a public servce station. We read the daily newspaper on the air live every day. We also recorded other printed material for the blind or visually impaired. A very generous volunteer recorded such old radio shows as Green Hornet, The Shadow Knows, Gracie & Allen, Jack Benny, & some stuff I remember as Inner Sanctum. We also had a recording of WAR OF THE WORLDS, which was requested frequently. VERY FREQUENTLY! I have a copy of LUX, "The Day the Earth Stood Still" I loved that job more than any other, even though there was no chance of advancement or raises. I loved it because once I proved I could the job, my boss left me alone to do it. THANKS RANDY! Good Luck & Blessings
Fred Allen was always my favorite. I laughed my head off. What a quick wit, and it was live, without a safety net.
