Is the Austin Air America Affiliate KOKE 1600 AM off of the air?!
Question: Haven't been able to pick it up since wednesday but this happens on occasion, however koke1600.com appears to be gone to. any insite?

Yep gone for good..Got sold, owner flipped (radio term for changed) formats to spanish

Yea it has been sold unfortunately. That was the only station I listened to other than KUT 90.5 FM and KOOP 96.1 FM.
I think the is only one other Air America station left in Texas and thats in Corpus Christi. Air America closed its station in Fort-Worth Dallas area last year. They also had one in San Antonio that they closed after a few months.
I really liked the 1600 AM. I had noticed recently that they have much more ads rather than PSA's and they had improved the quality. I wish this Garcia guy would at least syndicate some of the popular shows. But considering the fact that it is going to be spanish, he will probably not do it.
He owns most of the radio stations in Austin area. If I knew earlier about this we could have started a campaign to save the Air America station in Austin. But its too late.
More consolidation of media! The choices are dwindling. I subscribed to the premium membership at the Air America website. It is actually much better than the radio because you can download the podcasts a couple of hours after a show is over and there are no commercials! It is definitely worth the cost of membership to support real news!!!
What are the demographics that would allow such a take over of so many of Austin's radio to strictly Spanish speaking??
