Can Sirius activate my MX radio?!

Question: I bought a new car that comes with 3 months free of XM radio but I want to listen to NASCAR and that is offered by Sirius, do I have to have a radio from Sirius to get service from them?

Yes, you need a Sirius radio to receive Sirius programming.
The two are not interchangeable.
Though, if the merger goes through, that may change.

Not yet. But Mel said they would figure out a way to do it after the merger (if the merger happens).

The follow on posters know not of what they speak:

Not so: the two companies have made a statement to current XM and Sirius subscribers to say that current radios will work just fine after the two companies become one. This pledge comes after the companies asserted that owners of old kit wouldn't be left out in the cold in a recent conference call with analysts. As well as reassuring stock price influencing analysts -- both XM and Sirius's stock prices dropped recently due to concern regarding backwards compatibility and potential monopoly issues -- the soon-to-be-merged companies are carrying out ad campaigns (including a full page open letter in USA Today) to let current customers know that they will be able to tap into new programming once it becomes available. Now that that's out of the way, let the speculation about the name of the system after "merger day" begin: we think "Xirium" has got a certain ring to it.

With the proposed merger of SIRIUS and XM Satellite Radio into a single entity, one issue which will have to be dealt with is how exactly will users of both services be compensated either with new hardware or credit for new hardware to receive a new combined service. There is this proposed answer, according to gizmodo.com:
"In highly technical communications to the FCC, a man named Michael Hartleib makes a strong argument for the possibility of current satellite radios becoming interoperable—or gaining the ability to switch between Sirius and XM as easily as traditional radios do AM and FM. A firmware download could be all that's needed to upgrade the players..."

....another solution would be to broadcast the same programming on both sets of satellites

First, If The merger happens, you will need a new radio to receive Sirius and XM programming, and it will take 12-24 months before we see changes in programming. To answer your question, you will need a new tuner for your car and you can't activate your xm radio. If your Sirius! about doing it, take it to bestbuy or circuit city and have them install a tuner in your car so you can get sirius programming in your car with out the extra wires or if you want pick up a plug and play radio. There is a small amount of Nascar talk on XM Sports Nation Channel 144.

No. Right now Sirius is Sirius and XM is XM and they are separate.

Many local AM stations carry NASCAR programming that might hold you over until the merger is complete and channel selections from both services are offered.
