Are there any tricks to winning radio contests?!

Question: Are there any tricks to winning contests on the radio? Ya know, when you have to be the right caller and all that. I've been trying to win concert tickets for the past 2 weeks and haven't gotten through on the line! At this point I almost don't care if I win..I just want to get through!

Are there any tricks to getting through? Thanks.

Speed dial. I know a guy that had the numbers to three different stations programmed into his phone and he won at least 1 from each station a week. They started to know his name when he called.

yes!
don't bother unless you know a d.j. my girlfriend won several contests for concert tickets and other things when she was a teen cause she knew a disc jockey. what they do is tell whomever they are giving the prize to off the air to act "surprised!" when they are told live in a few minutes. smetimes they even have freinds of their own call in and try to win a porize they want. so they can sell t on ebay or keep it.!!!!!!!!
so it's all about who you know. all that redialing is a waste of time!

Whether you get through or how fast is dependent on where you live and the way your phone company is set up - true.

It is also based on the luck of the draw. These are all perfectly legal.

If you really want to win something, get as many people as you can together with the number programmed into their cell phone and when the buzzer buzzes, or whatever the signal is everybody just keeps hitting redial 'til they hear the busy signal, then does it again and again until your hear ringing, or the DJ says he has a winner. Be careful you don't get so excited you hang up when you hear actual ringing, or a pause instead of the busy signal.

Or do the same thing on your home phone with one person trying for each line you have (some people have more than one line at their house). Home phones are generally quicker than cellphones.

Another method works, but only if the station has given a hint as to approximately when they will have the contest and you've done some homework.

"Clock" the station. Write down what happens and when each hour for a few days to get the station's format clock. If you keep good notes you will discover at what time in the hour they play music and when they stop the music to play commercials, traffic etc. (a "break").

If they say "in the nine o'clock hour," starting at the beginning of the anticipated first "break," start calling.

Just have as many people calling as possible starting from about 10 seconds before each "element" ends. An element can be a song, commercial, traffic report etc. You may get lucky and sneak in just after they clear the phones for the contest.

Of course then you''ve got to talk the person who got through into letting you be the contestant ;<) Good Luck!

I work at a radio station and we're pretty lax about who gets most of our giveaways. What I would recommend is getting to know any DJ's you can. Call in even when there's no giveaways and just compliment them on their show, and say you love listening to them. Be sure to give them your name and be friendly. We love fans, and as.. who wasit? Elizabeth Taylor? said... "Flattery will get you everywhere, darling!"

Once you have the DJ's knowing who you are, call in a bit before the giveaways. If they say there's doing it in a particular hour, call in at the end of the previous hour and ask for that DJ or whoever is in charge of their giveaway (believe it or not, sometimes the DJ has prerecorded and left for the day by the time you hear it and someone else takes the calls). Say you know the giveaway isn't on yet, but you were thinking that maybe, just maybe, they'd want to bend the rules and help out a Loyal Listener.

Good luck, and remember: flattery gets you everywhere :-P
