Pirate radio (uk) is offcom the only people that can shut them down?!

Question: ok, well im not a old fuddy duddy. but recently a pirate radio station started up near me, its broadcasts interefere with 2 other major stations for a 6 mile radius.
fed up with hard core drum & base over powering all stations in the area, i went to report them to Offcom !

Offcom want me to pay them £50 up front for them to send someone to me to check it out........................
No wonder their are so many pirates on the airwaves if you have to pay to report them.

cut ofcom out, report to the local police or the council infact both, they have to act on the information you give them.

They have a duty to look into it, basically all they need is the band a frequency they are broad casting on and the times a day.

you tend to find pirate radio stations take over old empty house and buildings they move around a lot so not to be traced, they break into empty property's and by pass the meters to get the power on to run the equipment.

kind regards x Kitti x

omg how ridiculous is that? they mite as well promote it

The thing is people don't realise that the BBC have the monopoly on radio and they (because I bet my life they have huge influence over who gets to operate radio stations) won't let anyone else use the airwaves they don't approve of.

Many do apply for licenses but they are constantly rejected.

The BBC are so arrogant for example they think ALL 'black' people want to do is listen to hip hop (etc) all day. There is not a single NATIONAL radio for African people and there is certainly NOT ONE NOT involving music. I have nothing against music but why is it the only thing available.
That's why you have pirates. Sometimes it is the only way to give people what they want.
Maybe your efforts should be aimed at lobbying the govt to loosen the stranglehold the BBC have then both you and the 'pirates' can be happy.
But seeing as the BBC and the govt are in cahoots I can only wish you good luck.
