I like am radio how long has am radio been on, as a station?!
Question: am radio listener
Answers: am radio listener
AM isn't a station, it's a broadcast frequency.
They've been using it since the early 1900's.
The first American radio station was on AM. KDKA out of Pittsburgh.
The first officially licensed AM broadcast was KDKA, Pittsburgh, on November 2, 1920. Full story here:

Actually there's some competition for "first," as WWJ in Detroit and XWA in Montreal (and several others) also lay claim to that fame:
The first experimental AM broadcast was in 1906. The first commercial broadcast in the early 1920s.
There are thousands of stations on the AM band. Most have talk formats of some sort, because during the early 1970s, FM became the leader in music radio due to its better audio quality and stereo capability (which was unique back then).
Though the KDKA website has some good info, you can get a more objective opinion at Wikipedia, or use your favorite search engines: Yahoo and Google.
