Best way to ground?!
Question: a radio on a 60 foot mast aerial
Answers: a radio on a 60 foot mast aerial
best way and the way we have always done it good thick 9 foot long copper pipe drived into the ground.
now some aerials need insulating from the mask and some do not if yours is insulted from the mask you just need a good copper conductor to run from the top of the mask only
if your aerial earths to the mask then earth from a bracket on the aerial it's self down the mask to a good 9 foot copper pole in the ground

a grounding rod, you need to check local code for the proper diameter and length . talk with a local electrician and they should be willing to help you, or try a local electrical supply house and they will help you with the proper equipment
I think you got lucky and Wolfe sounds like he knows what he's talking about. But YA is not the usual place for an important question like that which could have serious repercussions.
Try www.radio-info.com. Go to the engineering section of the boards and post your question there. Those guys are pros.

Hammer a half inch by 4 ft copper or steel rod into the ground and earth to it. There are commercial lightning protection connectors available so I'd advise using one of them. I'm guessing you have an Amateur Radio Station..
