When there's no competition between companies that provide similar services, they can charge whatever, because they know you have nowhere else to go. That's what people need to understand. If there were more companies fighting for your business the prices would go down, there would be more incentive. When companies compete, you win!

Well, it would be bad for fans of XM's style of music programming. They call it a "merger of equals" but in reality, it is Sirius acquiring XM. In time, "duplicate" channels would be eliminated, with Sirius's programming philosophy taking over.
Then again, it may be the only way that satellite radio can survive.
