Why don't Hot 97 in New York, stream there radio over the internet?!

They don't stream, but they DO podcast their shows so you can listen to them after the fact. They probably do it because there is either no real demand for streaming, or they don't want to lose their listeners to internet radio and have their ratings lower.

Jetsette makes a couple of good points, however, it's actually so they don't have to pay extra fees. Podcasts can be edited to eliminate anything that might cost extra - talent, songs, jingles, etc. All that stuff comes with two pricetags: one for on-air, one for internet.

Hot 97 is the premier hip hop station in the country.

While everyone else, including Power 105 is streaming online, Hot 97 still isn't, in part because of the costs associated with it, and keeping their product exclusive to the tri-state area.

They're NY's #1 Blazin Hip Hop and R&B, and until someone gives them a run, they'll do whatever they please.

But if you want to get a sense for what NY radio is like, get a Sirius subscription and listen to Shade 45 in the mornings. It's hosted by Cipha Sounds and Angela Yee. It's a true, even better representation of NY radio, because they're not censored. Cipha even works at Hot 97.

In addition to what Jetsette and Duh said, Hot 97 more than likely does not have the ASCAP, BMI and SESAC performing rights licenses and the necessary AFTRA (American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) union agreements needed for a station to stream its signal on the Internet.
