No, its nothing like a disk jockey. I've been both, and the two are completely different. A disk jockey's job is to entertain, a news anchor's job is to inform. Disk jockeys try to keep the audience's attention, a News Anchor just reads the news and keeps the audience's attention with good news stories, not entertainment. News reporters also have to worry about getting the story right because integrity is everything with news, a disk jockey doesn't care about that as much.
Toucan Sam above is absolutely right. A disc Jockey and Radio Journalist are different. However, there are many different kinds of Radio Journalists--not just news anchors.
NPR has a good line of radio journalists. They tell stories, narrate events. If you're interested in that stuff, listen to "This American Life." Each hour long episode has various essays written by top authors. It's very interesting and entertaining.
I guess the other answers are basically correct - if you can find a place to apply it (in the US anyway). There are a few big boomer AM news stations left, but not many. And only the best of the best get on the air at stations like WINS, WBZ, etc. Many are owned by CBS which, in itself is a challenge.
But go for it, get your 3 minutes at the top of the hour torn from a service, because that's about all that's left in the US.
