How do I get in touch will Jim Ladd from KLOS?!

Question: I worked on-air as an announcer in capital city stations. In my country all you need to do is find out the mailing address of the studio where the announcer works out of - the place his or her program comes from - then write.

If you think he or she may receive a huge amount of mail that may be opened by a junior staffer you could mark the envelope with the words ADDRESSEE ONLY - or you.

Other than that if you sent them a 'little present' - anything as long as it is in a box or packet that lets the 'junior staffer' see that it is more than a letter - those kind of things are usuall handed without question to the presenter.

To find out the mailing address ring the station's OFFICE - that is business switchboard, or you may be able to get through on the competion line or talkback line if you think mom or dad would ban a long distance call. (Some networked programs have free call or local call numbers you might be able to make use of) Or, look on the internet - nowadays most decent radio stations have a net site - some do not.

Please do NOT expect a reply. Announcers are very busy people and most get lots of mail - it is impossible even for announcers at smaller stations to answer all their mail or their emails. If they do I can assure you they do not get much in the way of mail or email - and probably are not rating that well - you might however get a mention on-air. Depends what you write, how you write it and what the letter is about. Mentions on-air in general programs are usual rare - because it is probably not format. Other announcers with different programs may have established a rapport with listeners by mentioning mail and email - you will know from listening.

Good luck.
