Sirius has three satelittes that do a figure 8 orbit over the US and Canada, whereas XM stays in the same location over the equator but both are aimed only at the Continental US/Canada and areas that get it by overshoot of the spot beam.
That's why XM and Sirius reception in Hawaii,Alaska, and Puerto Rico/Virgin Islands is a game to some people and only reportedly happens on mountains or with Big dishes there
