XM radio 20 seconds Sports delay....??? what is the reason?!

Question: I figured I could Watch the hockey game on TV and Listen to it on the radio!! However, I noticed that the radio was like 20 seconds behind the live action. Is that the delay it takes to travel to the satelite and get rebroadcast???

Yes , you have to pause ..(if you have dvr)
Ron and Fez (XM 202) broadcasted them watching the superbowl , all without violating the law by only using nicknames and code words for the players and teams.
But yeah , I believe I had to pause 16 seconds to get the commentary to line up.

?

Some of the delay is due to buffering that is built-in to the system. It should buffer about 10 seconds of data. The buffer is needed to keep the audio flowing in case the signal is blocked by an overpass or occasional thick forest. Any additional delays is more than likely just time and encoder delays. The encoder delay shouldn't be much; ctAACplus (or just AAC+) is a fast encoder. If the source to them is slightly delayed, then that will also account for any time that is push back as well.
