What's a Morning/Afternoon Drive Show Host Salary?!

Question: As I've said before, I'm interested in getting in to this line of work.

In a city the size of Louisville, KY (a metro population of around 1.2 million) what would the salary be for the morning or afternoon drive host?

If you are interested in this line of work, First forget the mornign or afternoon drive host position as step one... Unless the current morning person finds you have potential, you may get lucky to first start out as fill in and weekend spots and in maybe 3 years look at afternoons (as most morning show hosts have 10 years or better experience)

My guess is probably about $40k for afternoon and $75k for the mornign guy and that will include having to do at least one other job such as program director, music director or something like that.. and a market the size of Louisville won't talk to someone without at least a year or so out in the sticks and a good demo tape.

Duh and others on here can tell you, You may get to see a $7 board operator position in a town that size and that's about it without a few years of experience. Best bet is a mom and pop station on weekends and nights to gain experience to get into radio

And salary depends upon experience and the amount of ratings you can pull to the station (ad revenue you can sell for them)... Most of the $1 million salary people get it when they are pulling in top 1 or 2 in their targeted demo in a major city.
