Three rules of antennas 1!. bigger, 2!. Higher!. 3 farther away from other objects!. Beyond that almost any good antenna will work!. Forget the horizontal beam idea if the people you are talking to are vertical You give up 20 DB (100 times) the signal if you are cross polarized!. (not totally true but close enough in 95% of the cases!.,) For distance on CB frequencies, higher is probably most important!. The radio horizon is not that far away, and at 27 Mhz, the signal is mostly either line of sight, or skip, which is another story entireley, and not likley to give you close in (under 100 miles) stuff!. In your situation I'd seriously consider getting a ham license!. With no code now, it's very easy and the rules allow a lot more!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I use a Antron 99 for a base antenna for 11m and 10m and it seems to work just fine for me!. Depending on how many watts your going to run, 20 miles (not knowing the terrain around your house) could be a stretch!. So, You may want to look into a Horizontal Beam antenna with a rotor!. That way you can be directional with your signal!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
