How many people think their local radio station has a live DJ?!

Question: How many people think their local radio station has a live DJ!?
Computers are taking over TV and Radio stations with automation programs running the services!. Most of the time we are "fooled" into thinking a show is live when in fact a DJ just pops into the studio for about 30 minutes and records 2 hours worth of "links" to be fitted in between the music!. Probably then being paid for the whole show duration!. If it's not automated then it is networked with about 40 commercial stations taking a show from just one station!. What happened to true live local radio!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
Depends upon the station but usually bigger market stations (bigger cities) do this and I know of stations where the same DJ runs a whole shift in two seperate cities and works maybe 4 hours a day total on air and does other duties (producing seperate stuff for each city 500 miles from each other)

Many morning shows are syndicated where it's live but being broadcasted over many stations and sometimes recorded for later playback in other time zones!.

But many local stations still run Djs and run it live with the computer automation spinning the records but the Dj is there to insure the program is playing and to take requests, answer questions etc etc!.!.!. and maybe why I still love local radio for!.

But the DJ isn't payed for the whole show duration usually!.!.!. they work at the hours actually put in as usually 30 minutes to an hour can cover a 4 hour shift and allows the DJ to do other work (Usually program/Music director, promotions, traffic manager etc etc)

Every station is computerized and yes, voice tracking is used by many!. My station is live- I do my show live!. Listener interaction via phone and email is crucial!.

It was sad to see a recent industry poll showing most people, especially youth, don't give a rat's a** if radio is live or local!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I'm positive that country 95!.3 has live DJ's all the day, however, I'm not sure about the over nights!.
They do so many contests/give aways that people have to call in for that I am positive that that is live!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

most of the time live, but I do think sometimes computers!!!!!!!!!they are taking over! :(Www@Enter-QA@Com

I'm shocked at that - surely it isn't that much cheaper to do it that way!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

You are correct - unfortunately!. Many of us on the programming side of the business are very concerned abut this!. We believe radio can only survive the online onslaught by maintaining that which has always served us well in the past: live, local programming!.

Many stations are still liive all day, but they are few and far between!.

If you are listening to John Tesh, Bob & Tom, Don Imus and the like, they make no secret of their national syndication!.

However there are lots of morning shows, midday and nightime jocks feeding several stations hundreds of miles from the central studios where they record their voice-tracks for airing over other stations - usually co-owned!.

There's not much you can do about it!. The bean counters have taken over!. For an interesting take on radio's faults these days, check out Jerry DelColliano's rants at:
http://www!.insidemusicmedia!.blogspot!.com!.!.!.

And keep these approximate numbers in mind: radio had a market cap of about 280 billion dollars a few years ago!. Today it's less than 30 billion!. Many radio stocks trade for under a dollar!. Why!? Beancounters have taken over (whoops, I'm repeating myself)!.
