What are radio ads called that are one way conversations and you fill in the bla!

Question: What are radio ads called that are one way conversations and you fill in the blanks!?
I'm not sure if these have a name but I heard a radio ad featuring Roseann Barr where it was the same exact conversation but the interviewer was different!. It almost sounded as if they got a tape of her and they just filled in the blanks so it sounded like they were interviewing her!. Do they really think people can't tell this is fake!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
They're called OET's; Open End Transcriptions!. (also, "Dub-In's")!.

They're primarily used to make a celebrity sound 'local' to an area in commercials and documentaries!. It's a hack move!. I can usually tell (because I've used them in my radio broadcasting career) due to the differences in microphone tonal quality!. You don't interview a celebrity with a Neumann M149 Tube mic with analog rack EQing and you use a Shure SM57 with no EQ'ing!. It sounds ridiculous!. Unfortunately, radio announcers and staff are on a tight budget and cannot afford luxuries as in-house celebs!.

Johnny Carson told of a story where in his radio career, he had an interview with a famous skater!. The question was supposed to be, "How long have you been practicing skating!?" The answer on the record was "I started when I was five and my parents always encouraged it"!. Johnny threw away the script and said, "Now, Mrs!. Smith, it's understood you drink pretty heavily!. How has this affected you career!?"!. The answer: "I started when I was five and my parents always encouraged it" (Old school humor)!.

Wow, Toonces brings back memories (and welcome to the board)!. I haven't seen or heard one of those things for years!. We used to get pre-packaged interviews when I was in Armed Forces Radio!. The local jock would "pretend" to be interviewing the celebrity, then broadcast it to local troops in the field!.

also got them early in my commercial career!. Record labels would supply them free of charge and we could promote new songs or a concert appearance using the pre-recorded answers!. If a celebrity was paid to pitch a product, we'd also get them to use when producing commercials!.

My only disagreement with the other answer is the quality difference!. Especially before 1980, the audio chain on your average radio station mashed everything up to a point where nuances easily heard by a professional engineer would never be noticed by most listeners through a transistor, bedside or dashboard radio (where most of the listening occurred)!.

If they're still around and you're listening through an excellent system, you might notice!.

For the most part I would agree with the above answers!. I still have boxes of these old interviews and commercials!. This is just another part of the scripted text a deejay has to work within!. More than once I felt like joining Johnny Carson and skewering someone!. The desire to see more than a severance check is what usually stopped me!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
