Question: What are some tips for announcing the news over the radio!?
I recently joined my school's college radio station!. I am a freshmen, and I've been training for less than 2 weeks!. Next Week they're gonna let me announce the news on air to all over brooklyn, just to get some practice on-air,before I have to find my own news and stuff!. Do you have any tips about how I could go about presenting the news on-air!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

I spent 15 years in radio, and the best advice I can give is to know your material!. Edit the copy so it fits your delivery style, not everyone can rip and read and sound natural!. What always worked for me was to talk to your best friend when you're on the air (figuratively of course), and even if you trip up a little, your audience will feel as if you're talking specifically to each of them instead of addressing a crowd!. Help them to feel as if they are part of the conversation, rather than just listening in on your talking and they'll stick around!. Good LuckWww@Enter-QA@Com

Warmth and feeling are the operative words!. Charles Osgood is still at it because he has that warmth!. People feel he's talking to them!. If the story demands it you let a little more feeling seep into the copy!. If you feel hurt over a painful tragedy, and it sounds like it, some PDs, program directors, might want you to be a bit more aloof!. But many others will welcome the human aspect that draws listeners in!.

Try this!. When they send you out to get your own stories think of demographics!. The majority of kids on campus are NOT studs and babes, jocks and hotties!. Look for stories that will appeal to the masses!. That's what the Osgood File is all about!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Just the facts, no friendly banter!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
