Would an International CHR Top 40 station do well in America? Or NYC at least?!

Question: Would an International CHR Top 40 station do well in America!? Or NYC at least!?
It seems that all American CHR Top 40 formatted station play exclusively American music, or sometimes the occasional British or Latin (Shakira) song, but always in English!.

There is some VERY quality foreign music out there!.

Swedish Dance, Turkish and Russian Hip - Hop, Spanish Alternative / Rock, Romanian Pop, Chinese Soft A/C, Middle Eastern Rhythmic R&B, Even Uzbekistan and the African Continent all have awesome pop music!.

So, why ALL English here!? Foreign stations tend to mix things up with many languages on their pop stations!.

^Could these songs and many others make it on a new international pop radio format!? I think It would be awesome!. But why does no one try it!? Not even here in New York, where practically everyone IS from a different country!.We are probably the most international city in the world!.

Any thoughts!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Short answer!.!.!.no!.

Long answer!.!.!.It is a broad-based niche audience!. The idea sounds good until you start dropping listeners because they can't understand the lyrics!. Yes, people actually listen to lyrics!. Research shows that more women then men do, but women are what most stations are geared towards!.

America is a melting pot for sure, but there truly isn't an audience big enough to support such a station, especially the 12+ demo that has little to no income!. At best the 18 - 34 year old females, who do have money, but mostly listen to things more low-key like your easy listening adult contemporary stations!. Songs that they know and can sing-a-long with!.

It's hard enough to sell an English only CHR in a major market that is already over saturated with the format (NY, LA)!. Now add the difficulty of having a Multi-cultural version of it to try to sell!? It is an unproven format that advertisers (especially in this economic environment) won't gamble their money on!. No money, no play!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I know americans need to have more languages in their TOP40, it would be really cool so i wouldn't be on the computer hear top40 from other countries, i want to hear it from the comfort of my car or room without a computer LOL!!!Www@Enter-QA@Com

Most foreign stations mix it up due to some lack of artists but other times the listeners are speakers of the other languages!.

Other than English and some in America who can speak Spanish, I don't think that American teens want to listen to just a beat with foreign words!. We've seen that with many Cds such as Shakira that never really gained traction unless it was mostly English!.

Would it make for a International pop radio format!? I don't think even in a cosmopolitian place like L!.A!. or NYC that it would have enough people to listen to keep advertisers happy and pay the bills!. That's why most in the US are played on College radio or on the Internet!.
