Is radio really phasing out of our society?!

Question: Is radio really phasing out of our society!?
As more and more people listen to ipods in their cars and at home for music as opposed to radio and without the adverstisements, do you think eventually we won't even have radio anymore!? Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
Depends

Who do you turn to when the power goes out and you want information!? Your Ipod!?

I think radio will be just like the rest of the media choices we have today!.

We still have people watching network TV even though we have 300 cable channels, Internet filled with cable tv programs ready to stream, video on demand, DVDs and VCRs!.!.!.

Radio will be the same way, it will be a choice instead of being forced to like in older days (1960s for instance)!. No matter how many Ipods you have, unless you limit your tastes in music you will need to listen to radio on a portable!. If you need information on something going on locally, you normally tune into the radio or TV station locally to you, not a webcast!.

Radio will have to change a lot of thinking!.

Webcasts originating in the US will be Ad filled in a few years the way things are going (webcasters actually pay more to play a song than a radio station in Royalties to songwriters, and webcasters also pay it to the artist who sang it and the record companies, something radio currently don't have to do (as they only pay to the song writers currently)!.

Same as Sirius (who is following the cable TV plan of hooking people with choice then feeding them ads and they won't want to change!.!. however many are leaving sat radio now because of lack of choice and the ads)

Now we leave the Ipods and burned cds, and unless you download off the file sharing sites illegally or listen to every cruddy song that I tunes and others give away free, you are forced to pay per song and in tight times like this, it gets to be expensive quick!. Plus radio usually gets songs for promotion before Itunes and sites such as that meaning it's the only place to hear songs before they are allowed to be downloaded

I figured that for my personal tastes, to never listen to radio, it would take roughly 10,000 songs (that's just for country music) plus adding about 20 songs a month to never make me listen to radio again!. I can't afford this and I don't have the HDD to store this amount of music!. (plus I'm a sucker for good radio talent :-) as we all like to be entertained by a friendly voice occasionally!.

Personally, I don't have a IPOD currently, but do use radio with a modest collection of media (computer mp3s,cds, cassettes, albums) to keep me going!. especially this month after I turn the radio off listening to Brenda Lee do her Christmas song for the billionth time!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Good Question!.

Terrestrial radio (AM/FM) is starting to get phased out for a few reasons!. Many of the auto makers are now installing Sirius or XM in their vehicles and the people buying the vehicles are getting hooked!. That leads to a drop in listeners for AM/FM which leads to lower advertising dollars, which leads to well!.!.!.radio being phased out!. Add to that the fact that most of the FM stations are now run by national companies as opposed to independent local stations!. Channels like Jack FM and any of the KISS channels can be picked up in any major city which means they're making money due to their size and reach!.!.!. in the meantime they're taking away from smaller local channels!. I'm sure FM radio will be around for a while but be ready for more commercials, less music, and less listener interaction!. Www@Enter-QA@Com

I don't know!. I'm not sure it would!. I mean, the radio mainly is used to listent to music!. Mainly!. But when I listen to the radio (just yesterday actually), I like hearing what my favorite station is talking about!. And they have contests, prizes, you could win just so they can have people tune in!. I still think the radio will be used!. I have an MP3 player; in fact, my family has all kinds of MP3 players, because my mom can't seem to get enough of them, but I still listen to radio from time to time!. And my sister loves listening to what her favorite people are talking about on their station!.

Plus, if they did do that, then they'd have to make all of those cars where you can plug in your MP3 player and listen to to it through the speakers!. And even if they did do that, they could have radio shows where they only talked about the latest accessories for MP3 players!. Www@Enter-QA@Com

No!.

Regardless of technology, not everyone can afford XM and iPods and the like!. Not to mention, XM is in the red and operating at a loss, so I can't imagine that they will be able to continue to operate the way they have been without folding at some point!.

I think radio will have to change its approach, connect itself with the internet and it's listeners, but radio will not completely die--as log as those of us who work in it are alive, that is!. :-)Www@Enter-QA@Com

That question is a good one!. It's scary one too!. I am a radio personality and it seems that where I'm from, it's not much of a problem!. I have my ipod, my computer, etc!. that I use to listen to music, but it's never the same as the radio!. For me, I think it's cool that there are so many people who work in the field that care so much about music!. That's why I'm in it!. Music is honestly my life!. I wouldn't be here without it!. I find it to be such an honour to work at a radio station and do what I love!. As for the advertisements, they keep us going!. That's what puts food on peoples tables!. We get paid to play them!. also, artists get way more exposure through radio than anything else!. You get to hear the whole song, for free, and it's legal!. You then feel the need to purchase their works!. Either way, I do not think that radio will ever completely vanish, but it's a shame that no one seems to appreciate what really goes on and wants to get rid of it completely!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I don't believe so!. What if you don't have an IPod or MP3 player!. I don't have one nor do I really want one!. I like to listen to the radio or burn my own cds to listen to!.
When you listen to most radio stations online they usually dont run commercials!.(or at least the ones I listen to online)

Have a good day!Www@Enter-QA@Com

it might be a possiblity, like u said more people probbly listen 2 their ipods in their cars now!.

i would hate if it did! radio is a great thing!

even if it did, im sure it would fade out completely!

people need to hear the news while their in the car!

u cant get that on an ipod!Www@Enter-QA@Com

What a concept! I definately hope not!. I am not going to subscribe to those stations, when I can get it free!.
There are more poor people in the world than those that can afford to subscribe, or buy IpodsWww@Enter-QA@Com
