A few radio questions for you?!

Question: A few radio questions for you!?
Okay, So I have always wanted to sort of start my own radio station!.
I want one that fits my taste in music, and hopefully to others as well!.
Anyway!.
I have been reading up on AM and FM transmitters and I have a few questions on how they work and what exactly I need to go along with one!.
Which one should I get AM or FM!?
I know it's somewhat illegal if the FCC catches you, but some say that if you have it out in the middle of nowhere (where it doesn't interfere with any other stations) then there's a very minute chance that one would get caught!.
And it just so happens that where I live is at least 30 miles from the nearest town, so it won't really interfere with anything!.
So, my questions are:
Should I get an AM or FM transmitter!?
How do they work, and what do I need along with them!?
What are some the the FCC guidelines!?
and anything else you think I may have left out!.
Thanks!Www@Enter-QA@Com

If you want to have some fun with internet radio, go here

You can download the shoutcast software, setup your own radio station, and have some fun first with friends, then maybe you'll find lots of listeners!.

You can listen to all sorts of internet radio produced by individuals, many are pretty good!.

Get more info on Shoutcast using Google, and get the WinAmp MP3 player as well as the source of audio for your Shoutcast broadcast!.

hope this helps!. PS: I've done this in years past, it's good fun, and I ended up collecting thousands of recordings of all kinds, rock, classical, comedy, etc!.

You can consider pirate radio, but the penalties are pretty serious, like monetary fines, plus confisication of your equipment!. also, your audience is severely limited by the power levels you can use, and the coverage!. I assure you that internet radio has worldwide coverage, especially if you do a bit of advertising of your radio station and hours of activity and kind of music!. There are LOTS of tools to use with shoutcast, so you won't get bored very fast with all there is to learn!.

Have fun!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

It's not slightly illegal - that's like being slightly pregnant!. It is absolutely illegal to operate a radio station above a certain very low frequency without proper licensing and authorization - no matter where in these United States you live!. So my answer has to stop here lest I contribute to the deliquency of a minor (or potential jock)!.

By your questions I can tell you're young - and it's good that you have some lofty goals (I've wanted to own a station for 40 years and haven't made it yet)!. It's a very expensive and difficult enterprise and I wish you luck in your research - anyone who wants to own a station should have the smarts to find the answers to your other questions!. They are well posted on the web!.

But do it legally - and make sure your research includes some studying-up on frequency interference!.

Good luck!.
