How do radio stations create/maintain their music libraries?!

Question: How do radio stations create/maintain their music libraries!?
For instance, how does a top 40 station buy the music!? Do they buy a block of songs!? What about an oldies station!? A station here in Ontario plays a lot of covers of hit songs!. Is it it cheaper to buy covers (as opposed to the original artist)!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
I know in the US, there are websites catered to radio stations for obtaining music as well as Cds offered to them via Mail such as
http://www!.cdxcd!.com/new-service/

The station in Ontario may be playing covers due to CanCon rules!.!.!. Remember that 30 something % of the music has to have a Canadian involved!.!.!.!. Most oldies music was American made, hince to comply, it may be easier to offer the covers than the actual songs sometimes!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
