I just started getting in to nypd blue. Can anyone tell me what happens to David Curusos and Jimmy smitts characters.

I can't remember what happen to David's character I think he just left, but Jimmy's character got sick and quickly died leaving Diana pregnant with their baby, the last episode with him was a real sad one
