The Hills is absolutely real, not scripted. The only thing that is "not real" is the fact that occasionally MTV intervenes, and sets up situations (such as the time Heidi and Spencer were at the same restaurant as Lauren and Jason), but they can't control what happens. Also, sometimes they go back and re-shoot things at different times. For instance, the cameras may have missed a confrontation between Lauren and Heidi, so when the camera's are with her, they go back and re-enact the same situation. So it is not scripted, but slightly changed by MTV.
It's real. Just as real as any other reality show actually
some of it I think its real but how everyone always acts like on live shows they act like they dont even like each other
It's as real as it can be with producers and cameramen telling you what to do... It is heavily influenced and some of the scenes are stages. I mean, come on, how often do people meet up somewhere random to talk for five seconds and then leave? The cast members are encouraged to do certain things and be in certain situations, which generates all the drama.
i think some parts are real but other times they plan things cause its so weird how all of a sudden they all meet in the same club
