do not base canadian humour on our ads please. The ppl behind ads aren't comedians but are publicists! It's called marketing not humour!

More seriously, countries with a low international profil try anything to get more attention abroad.
Trying to be noticed by sending more TV commercials/ads than other countries is an easy and maybe effective way to reach that goal.
Obviously it failed miserably with you which means you're a discerning viewer with a critical mind; a person who does not swallow everything that is broadcast on TV.
