Old Dragon Kids show?!
Question: There was a show (i forgot the channel, tried to google it but I've come up with nothing) that I used to watch as a kid. It had a (green?) dragon and children, usually three (and maybe a wizard?) who basically went through episodes with endings resulting in lessons for kids.
I wish I could give more information but for the life of me I cannot remember anything else about it. It was not a cartoon.

Apart from the animated "DragonTales" (note the spelling of the title),the one show I could come up with that halfway matches your description was "The Adventures of Dudley the Dragon", a Canadian-made live action show from the early 1990s (enviromental education was this show's purpose). Character actor Graham Greene sometimes appeared o the show (as a tree,no less).
The show is in occasional reruns on Starz Kids and Family and on a few local PBS stations.
