the movie didn't do a good job with that scene i don't think. she was raped, however in the movie it just shows her all beat up and almost killed. she was worried that her husband would ditch her when he found out and she would be an outcast in society.
Because she was raped by Comanches and she is afraid her husband wouldnt want her anymore. The book explains more than the miniseries. But she basically loses her mind because of the rape. Hope that helps.
