On American Idol; Do We Really Need To Hear The Back Stories And All Of That?!

Question: Quite frankly, I don't care where you're from, where you work, if you're a single mom, your father just died.. that is all irrelevant bull and I don't see why this is even mentioned.

It should be strictly about "singing talent" and leave all the back stories out. Definitely these people's sob stories have an impact on voting. If we knew nothing about these people other than their vocal skills the voting would be more honest.

lol. i agree. i stopped watching the show bacause of it...like 3 years ago. No offense, i cant stand that "tattoo" song by the Sparks girl. She seems cool, but the song sucks.

i hate that too I also Tvo it and fast forward through the dumb stuff

I guess they do it just to let us know the type of person he/she is.I dont think it influences votes.I know I will only vote for the one that I think can really sing.
Hey....I voted for Carrie Underwood every time to the end!
Oh...I know I have good taste of music.....lol.....thanks....
By the way she didnt have no sob story that I can remember.

I have watched American idol once...there was some hillbilly girl taking about how her pappy dun shot hisself and now he is crippled and so they live with their grandmammy...I will never watch it again.

To remove the background information of the contestants would be to remove a large part of the entertainment value of the program. Imagine removing the "bad" auditions and "bad" performances - what would be left would be incredibly boring. Then there would be no need for Simon. Along with the poor auditions, poor performances and the truly talented people, the background data ties the "package" together.

There would be far fewer viewers and as a result far fewer sponsors if American Idol was strictly an edited "talent" show. The program would cease to exist.

I disagree with you on this. Yes, I get tired of the background stories myself. (a large part of the reason why I hate the auditions episodes) But its good to know the different backgrounds. But lets he honest, we all know that American Idol is not about talent. It is about popularity, and who America has identified with the most. (Do you remember Sanjaya?- clear example) I usually vote for people that I identify with the most, people that I think deserve to win.
