Do you think the television companies should be wiping tapes of old programmes?!

Question: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTUhGlH8O...

I think if it was a series they should at least keep one episode of each programme. If it was a play or something else one off they should be preserved.

Some programmes have now been lost forever, and they were part of the history of television. What a shame.

Yep,television had its golden era in the 1970s and its at that time that the beeb decided to wipe tapes as they had no room, dads army, steptoe and likely lad all had episodes wiped but some were found on aussie as they had tape copies. The biggest loser was top of the pops, where up to 80% were wiped. Now everything is kept as storage is not a problem in the compressed online format,

I don't think they do it now, but you're right it was a shame that hundred's of programmes were lost forever. Something to do with the high cost of videotape, I believe!

None should be wiped...they should put them on dvd and let some of us buy them if we want too.

they should keep copies of everything. I know "Wheel of Fortune" has all 25 years of their show preserved. They have been showing pieces of lots of old shows on their 25th anniversary, going on right now.

They only did that in the old days when they didn't know better.

True... so true....
I mean I'm not going to watch a silent movie but still. Historic mometns in TV have been lost. Like the first thing to ever air on tv. That should be in a museum and not in a memory.
