Why is America constantly remaking movies and t.v. shows?!

Question: Why is America constantly remaking movies and t!.v!. shows!?
Was horrified to see Life on Mars has been remade, it was a brilliant show!. Just like Coupling and The Office (Original English versions much funnier) I can't see myself wasting time having all the subtlety ripped out and having the punchlines explained to me!.
Is this xenophobia, do you not understand an English accent or is it something else!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Networks and studios are too conservative!. They are scared of anything new!. Remember Sanford and Son, All in the Family, Mash, Barney Miller, etc!.!.!. Damn! Those were the fuxxing days!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

It's money!.

If an American network were to run, say, Life on Mars, they would have to pay the BBC for the episodes!. They would make no further money and have no rights to the show, since it's the intellectual property of the BBC!. However, they can pay the BBC for rights to the concept, then develop their own version!. Now they have complete control and own it!. They make money off of residuals, off of streaming it, off of DVD sales, off of syndication and tie-in merchandise!. It gives them a much bigger profit!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Nope its not Xenophobia!. I think film makers in Hollywood are just not that creative!. Its more about making money!.

So there not only ripping off foreign movies and TV shows!. They are also remaking Classic American films as well!.

I just saw the remake of "The Day The Earth Stood Still" with Keanu Reeves!. It wasn't bad!. The special effects were much better than the 1951 version!. The ending was a little abrupt though!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

don't worry no one watches television here anymore !.!.!. low ratings here in america!.!. i mean American Idol is suffering!.!.!. besides what's the big fuzz we get copied all the time and as for movies, well, those japanese remade movies suck really bad, best to watch originals!. All i recognized was the office, not that i've seen it, but because of steven correll (whatever his name is) from 40 year old virgin!.

!.!.!. i don't understand accents really well, but i wouldn't mind robert pattinson's accent !.!. haha!Www@Enter-QA@Com

i think its an accumulation of factors and not just one!. i think that a lot of it has to do with money, and wanting it to be percieved well by the consumer, also there's something really comforting about watching or listening or experiencing something familiar in general, and bc of that hollywood banks on not just remakes, but continutions they're coming out with saw 6 for christs sake!. but i digress!. i think that also what some of the people before me said is valid, some of the punch lines that you may cringe at, are funny bc its relevant to americas culture and not nesscarily yours!.
i hope this helped:DWww@Enter-QA@Com

some things just don't come across

I loved the office (US) and when I found out it was a copy of a UK version, I checked that one out!. I didn't find it funny at all!.!.!.

which leads me to believe that some things just aren't understood here for some reason!.!.!.

don't worry we can understand the accent!.

except for the hillbilly equivalents in the remote parts of england!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Yes I have no idea why they do that either!. Maybe it is the accents!. They have to sell advertising and advertisers are scared of new things!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

even though a lot of the shows get really messed up when they do it they get out of date and also some people are probably too lazy to think up their own ideasWww@Enter-QA@Com

No imagination anymoreWww@Enter-QA@Com

same reason rappers are redoing old songs!. no originality left!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
