Kel's answer seems to be very convincing, but is in fact not at all correct!. First of all, one CAN get blisters on his fingers from playing the drums - I would know, being a drummer myself! And does the yell not come after an intense, extremely long drum part!? (Yes, it does :P) also being a guitarist, I can tell you that it is uncommon for people that have been playing daily for over a decade to get blisters - it happens easily to beginning players who haven't yet developed calluses!.!.!. but I assure you that John, Paul, and George had VERY developed calluses!.
None of the Beatles themselves, nor George Martin, nor any other credible source has ever given a serious answer to this question, so it is impossible to say for sure!. Ringo has claimed to be the one that said it, but then, the Beatles did have a tendency of joking around and lying to the press just to mess with crazy fans!. This argument has been going on for years, and there are people that believe one theory over the other so strongly, they will state it as a fact!. There are hundreds of books and thousands of websites that claim to have the answer, but none of them can prove it!. The only thing known for sure, based on evaluations of voice, is that it must be John OR Ringo - and is definitely not Paul or George!.
