What is the source of Superman's powers?!
Question: Me and my friend got into a fight today over this. He says his powers are derived from exposure to the yellow Sun. I say that it's from not being on Krypton and exposed to a red star. Is it one of these, or is it something else?

Superman gets his powers from the solar radiation given off by Earth's yellow sun. The solar energy from our yellow sun supercharges his Kryptonian cells and stores the energy that Superman uses to be super. The radiation from Kryptonite affects the stored solar radiation, focing it out of his cells, which is very painful and why Supermans weakness is Kryptonite. The radiation from a red sun has the same effect. That is why Kryptonians on Krypton had no superpowers. They were never exposed to yellow sunlight so they lived as normal people under the red sun. Once Kryptonians arive on Earth, they absorb yellow sunlight and gain superpowers which is why other kryptonians have come to Earth besides Superman

The difference makes superman great here on earth, but back on krypton, he would be ordinary.

Well he is an alien, and all people (or, um aliens) from that planet have super powers. Either they have evolved or they are just a super race I'm not sure, but superman encounters people from his home world in some of the stories and they have the same powers as he does. SM was really sent to be a god among men on a planet where the people are puny and very weak-- also because his home planet was destroyed. I also believe that the sun supposedly recharges his powers, which makes sense. But there are so many versions of superman its hard to tell. Hope that helps.

Technically, its a combination of both. Kryptonians where physcailly stronger than normal humans, however, their powers were weakened because of the red sun that was around.
