Question: How do I make an animated film like the movie "Batman: Gotham Knight"!?
What style of drawing and what kinds of program did they use in the making of this movie!? How long did it take!?

Does it absolutely have to be hand drawn to look good!?

More importantly I want to know how they made the background and the buildings look so realistic during the beginning of the movie!. I like how cartoon + realistic background looks!.

I looked at the trailer and there is a LOT that is going on in this film!.

The animation uses two formats- 2D and 3D!. For most of the animation- YES you have to do it by hand!. Any more, most people create the animation lines by hand, and then scan it into a computer where they color and clean everything up!. For that, you'd need either Photoshop or Illustrator!. For the 3D, that is made within 3Ds Max or Maya, normally!. And is rendered out as a cel-shade so that it blends well with the 2D!. The backgrounds are made in 2D format- either by hand or within Photoshop, Illustrator, ec!., and the put into something like After Effects or Combustion where they use z-space (or 2!.5D space) and in computer cameras to make it look like there is space between the various buildings, etc!. Creating the realism isn't hard, it just takes a lot of practice!.

If you want to make your own, be ready to drop some serious money for these kinds of programs!. I'd say if you're into this stuff, go get a degree in animation or visual effects, and you'd be on your way!. Www@Enter-QA@Com
